Missions

Our mission is to glorify God through the spreading of the Gospel to all nations. The missions ministry seeks to fulfill the Great Commission in local communities, both here and abroad. The missions ministry is administered by the missions council under the leadership of the elders of Grace Community Church.

The missions ministry fulfills the church’s purpose in the following way:

GRACE: Our purpose is to spread the gospel of God’s grace to the lost and hurting in our community and around the world.

COMMUNITY: Our method is twofold: reach our neighbors through local ministries and reach foreign peoples through partnerships with long-term missionaries. Locally, the missions ministry reaches out to the North Alabama community through partnerships with existing local organizations and our own mercy and neighborhood evangelism ministries. Internationally, the missions ministry reaches out to foreign communities through prayer, encouragement, teaching, and financial support of the ministries of long-term missionaries.

CHURCH: Our goal is to see new people added and assimilated into the body of Christ. We also desire to see our church body, our missionary families, and those whom we serve to be presented complete in Christ.

Missions Policy

Local Missions

We believe that our church should be salt and light in our very own community. Therefore, we are in the process of identifying ministries that seek to effectively meet the needs of people in the Tennessee Valley, and we plan to come alongside these ministries to take the gospel to our neighbors. For more information on any of these opportunities or to volunteer, please contact the church office.

ORGANIZATIONS:
Choose Life of Huntsville
This ministry provides services and counseling to women who are pregnant, considering abortions, have already had an abortion, or are trying to take responsibility for their lives. Choose Life has a need for men and women to serve as counselors and mentors for the women and their partners who come to the clinic.

Habitat for Humanity
This ministry promotes financial stewardship and provides economical housing to low income families. Habitat for Humanity has a need for construction workers and counselors for potential home owners.

Huntsville Assistance Program
The Huntsville Assistance Program is a group of Christian congregations who desire to provide a ministry of assistance and referrals to needy individuals and families of Madison County, Alabama. This ministry focuses on the non-homeless and strives to achieve its mission by the pooling of volunteers, information, and financial resources of its members.

MISSION OPPORTUNITIES:
Prayer, teaching, financial support for missions, manual labor for a Habitat work crew, and Choose Life counselors for both men and women are additional mission opportunities.

International Missions

Grace Community Church is committed to spreading the gospel to the uttermost parts of the world so that God’s church will grow and His name be glorified. We believe the best approach for our congregation is one that recognizes highly qualified individuals and families by affirming their call to a particular mission, their giftedness to carry out the mission, and their ongoing demonstration of commitment to the body of Christ. We are committed to using our gifts, talents, and resources responsibly by minimizing administrative bureaucracy and maximizing spiritual and financial accountability.

We are currently supporting families serving in Africa and the Czech Republic.  We encourage our members to support these families through prayer, personal notes of encouragement, and financial giving that exceeds our church budget.

Moorhead Family

Jonathan and Sharon have been Grace Community Church missionaries since 2008. They previously served in Samara, Russia (2008–2014) where they were the final missionaries on the ground to oversee the transition from missionaries to trained national leaders. The Moorheads are now in the Czech Republic and are participating in a similar ministry at the Czech Bible Institute. As one of the most atheistic countries in Europe, there are significant needs for evangelism, church planting, and the training of national leaders.

Jonathan has an MDiv and ThM from The Master’s Seminary (2000, 2003), a PhD from Dallas Theological Seminary (2008) and is certified with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. Sharon is a graduate of The Master’s College in flute performance (2000) and now serves the family by homeschooling Nahum, Isaac, Jesse, Jonas, and Miriam.

Meyer Family

The Meyer family are church planters in Central Africa. They work among a Muslim people group on the edge of the Sahara desert.
